Leap at the chance!

Leap at The Chance

It’s a Leap year! This is great. Well not that great for working types, basically you have to work one more day until payday that you usually wouldn’t have to. Bah humbug. But there is another think that the Leap Year brings up – female marriage proposal. While in the enlightened 21st Century woman ‘can’ propose to men, it is unlikely many do so. But on the Leap year day they are ‘officially’ allowed to.

The story is that the female St Bridget complained to St Patrick (he of the patron saint and Guinness variety) that woman had to wait so long for men to propose (does anything ever change?!) so he granted them the right to propose on this one day every four years – I think old Bridget was fobbed off there.

But be warned men, the chance is they may well do it, so if you have been putting it off ( to save money to make it extra, extra special (with some MioDestino lingerie as an early present of course)) then you could find yourself looking pleased then horrified when your woman goes down on one knee and says those four little words. Have a good excuse ready (if you’re the commitment-phobia type – which we are continually portrayed as being in modern entertainment (and clearly were in the Middle Ages).

However, whether many of them realise this is the reason for a leap year is another matter – although I have just told them.

Make Breakfast Less Boring

Toast - Make Breakfast Less Boring

Breakfast can be so dull sometimes. A dry piece of toast, a stodgy bowl of cereal, a badly made cup of tea – it’s no wonder we hate mornings so much. But on one of my many wanderings around the internet I came across some brilliant gadgets for making breakfast a lot more fun. While Mio Destino allows men to give their girlfriends great gifts sometimes us men like to buy ourselves things now and again too (honestly, it’s true, I swear!), and often these things take the form of needless but downright cool inventions.

So first I give you, the ‘Gun Fryer’ – turns your eggs in to guns. While the idea might be tasteless you can be assured your eggs will somehow taste better in the shape of a gun!

And even better than that, and I really might get one of these, the ‘Pirate Toaster’. Arrrr…what could be better, me hearties, than a piece of toast with a skull and cross bones on it!

And ladies look at this way – with so much fun to be had in the kitchen, your man will leave you lounging in bed in your Mio Destino pyjamas, while he is cooking up a storm in the kitchen on his new gadgets to bring you breakfast in bed…

Lingerie Review – The Sexy New Lingerie Collection For Pregnant Mommas

HOTmilk Maternity Lingerie from Mio Destino

Lingerie experts www.miodestino.co.uk bring the sexiest maternity lingerie ever to the UK.

The collection began then two NZ designers, Lisa Ebbing and Angela Crosbie, were unable to find maternity lingerie that made them feel like the sassy, cheeky, incredible women they are.

They created a range that would empower pregnant women and make them to feel gorgeous all the way through pregnancy and beyond. Hotmilk has reinvented and redefined maternity lingerie, creating a collection that is a little bit naughty, a little bit daring, offering a mix of humour and sensuality but with the focus firmly on comfort as well as style.

The bras are ideal for breast-feeding, with no restrictive underwire, soft comfy cotton linings and no-fuss one handed maternity clips. Wider bra straps, great coverage and support and 6 rows of hooks on the back ensure complete comfort, while the sassy designs are made to flatter and fit.

With bold images that created a sensation in Australia and NZ, and a commitment to the benefits of breast feeding, the collection offers an alternative to traditional maternity lingerie. Lisa says:
“We wanted to get away from boring brown and offer something that would reflect the inner thoughts of the fabulous woman inside the loving mother.”

Having built up a loyal following in Australia, the collection is now available on Mio Destino

Swimwear: where underwear meets outerwear

Moontide Swimwear and Bikinis

With the anticipated sunny days of March in sight we gradually enter spring and mood and colours are getting brighter. Dark coats and winter boots are going to be packed away soon.
Too early to think of bikinis? Well I think it’s the best moment to do so.

I believe women should think of swimwear as relaxed, stylish, comfortable and exclusive lingerie, who likes indifferent swimwear after all? Spend some time now to have a look at designers’ swimwear of MioDestino and let your winter mood lighten up!

It’s true, summer makes us more aware of our body but whatever are your concerns a relaxed attitude about revealing your body is always important under the bright sunshine of a beach of Mykonos, Rhodes, Kos or Crete. So if we’ve seen enough dark tones and undefined lines in swimwear in the past in the Greek islands it seems things are getting better year after year.
Bikinis are always in fashion and can be very smartly combined with a camisole or a mini wrap as in these 2008 collections from Moontide or in a posh-Latino, elegant line from Aubade.

If a bikini is not quite to your liking a full-length swimming suit is a great alternative! Look for a boy short or a nice wide waist band are always flattering and feminine.

Don’t forget that a well matched swimming suit and wrap or camisole will make a big difference on the way you look chilling out with a summer drink on the beach.

HEARTS In Athens

Hearts in Athens, organised by Hearts the World

‘Hearts in Athens’, organised by ‘Hearts the World’ is a public Art event which is going to take place in Athens from January to March 2008. The concept of this event is to motivate artists of different media to create artworks in the shape of a heart creating a dialogue between art and the Athenian public and at the same time transforming and intervening in various sites (streets, squares, fountains, lamp posts) across the town.

The event follows the path of cow-parades which was met with success in many cities internationally during the last years.

Shakira is a Lovely Girl

Shakira is a Lovely Girl Selling her Bra for Charity

Shakira is a lovely girl. Easy on the eye, got the sexy South American thing going on, not the worst singing voice in the world…and now she has decided to sell all her clothes to raise money to build a school in her home country of Columbia.

And one fan of hers (I am going out on a limb and guessing they are male) paid £1,500 for one of her bras. I suppose it’s as close as he is going to get…

But it’s an intriguing, if slightly sordid, idea. Get attractive females from around the world to sell their underwear / lingerie and let the bids roll in. It could work for women too. David Beckham’s recent advert for Emporio Armani has caused a rise in sales and I reckon there are woman out there willing to pay a lot of money to get their hands on the original garment.

Shakira declared in her breakthrough hit that her breasts were ‘small and humble like mountains’ which despite the obvious contradiction, is probably the least of this ‘fans’ concerns now…

Dame Vivienne Westwood is back!

Dame Vivienne Westwood is back at London Fashion Week 2008

Yes she’s back! Dame Vivienne Westwood made her return to London, after a ten year absence, in spectacular style. As one of the most anticipated shows of the week, there was literally a rugby scrum to get in (even having a ticket doesn’t necessarily mean you’re guaranteed a place!). And this was all for her secondary line, Red Label. Maybe one day Ms Westwood will deem London cool enough to show her main collection here again.

With an (almost) A-list front row (Lilly Allen et al..), this was more of a victory parade for Westwood, rather than a show stopping collection. But, being a secondary line, one wouldn’t expect anything else- it was a very wearable, (apart from the crotch bearing minis of course), very ‘nice’ collection. There were no shock tactics, no stunts- just a lovely collection.

Conservative belted trenches, skinny trousers and faux fur coats sat happily alongside gold lame minis, crotch flashing dresses and standard Westwood tartan. I could happily wear almost every look- which isn’t something one often says after a show. Let’s hope we can entice more designers (ahem, Alexander McQueen) to stay loyal to their British routes and show at LFW again.
